It’s all about the music, baby.
Mom’s 50th birthday party came together nicely at the very last minute. I found a company willing to put a 8 foot birthday cake sign on our front lawn and my brother found a local Elvis impersonator to come to the party. Elvis was supposed to sing 3 songs but ended up staying for an hour. He sang, drank Jello shots with my mom and made us go on Google to find some song about petunias from the movie Frankie and Johnnie.
Yesterday I saw Chris Connelly at the Hideout. First I have to bitch about the opening band. The band consisted of a big neck beard in jeans and a cute girl in a dress. Is the beard/girl in a dress combo in? My emo coworker is in a band like this too. So beard faces away from the crowd most of the show because they’re all about distortion. And the girl sings very slowly and high pitched and I can’t understand a damn word she says. I hate that type of female vocalist.
Chris Connelly finally found a band so it wasn’t just him and his guitar this time.He did his usual black shirt and pants but was dressed up a bit this time. And he still makes his “glaring at the crowd” face even though he isn’t growly industrial anymore. Can you tell I used to have crush on him? Ya, he played music, too. He played only songs from the new CD and anytime that happens you’re going to have a few boring songs because not all CD worthy songs are also concert worthy.
Chris posted today that Wim Wenders was filming the show. Wim Wenders directed Buena Vista Social Club and Wings of Desire. Nick Cave was in Wings of Desire. I love this 6 degrees stuff.
So that prompted me to check out what Nick Cave was up to and why he didn’t have any US tour dates for the Abattoir Blues tour. No explanation for that other than he gets no love here and sells out stadiums in Europe. Nick Cave has a new band called Grinderman. Grinderman sings “No Pussy Blues”. Love them already.
Oh, and I had to come back and add that I really like the new NIN songs and the “Oops, I dropped my USB drive in the venue bathroom” leak approach.
