I don’t like April, it’s never been good to me.
De La Rocha, my African dwarf frog died tonight. :(
He was always the smaller of the two, which is why he got named after the skinny Rage Against the Machine vocalist and the other after boxer Oscar De La Hoya. I’ve had these guys since undergrad and they’ve survived multiple dorm to apartment to parent’s house moves. I’m impressed they were so hardy. The fish I tried to keep didn’t last nearly as long. The snail I had lasted about a year but they have shorter life expectancies.
Recently, both frogs have been showing signs of age. De La Rocha was getting skinnier and his beady little eyes weren’t looking so good. One of De La Hoya’s eyes clouded over and I suspected a fungal infection. I’ve been treating the tank with anti-fungal drops.
Today I went to feed them and De La Rocha was lying on his back in the corner. Maybe because there are a lot of other things going on right now, but I saw him and burst out crying. It’s kind of odd being attached to a creature that’s the size of my pinky finger.
De La Hoya watched me as I dragged his friend’s body out of the tank. I think I will bury him in my parent’s backyard. I came back and fed De La Hoya, I think he’s OK to live on his own but I have to look on some frog forums to see how these guys do on their own.
:(
:(!
I am sorry to hear it. I always liked the little guys, and I am considering getting some of my own when I move back stateside.
