My license came in the mail today. I’m officially a LSW!

I can’t say good day because the day is not done..but it has been a good morning.

I passed the LSW exam!

I think the ASWB study guide and the Social Work Guide helped so I’m going to give both of those study tools a thumbs up. However, I would find a used version of the Social Work Guide is possible, it’s expensive for one book.

I have only used the free practice exams on Socialworkexam.com but I would give that site a thumbs down if the free exams are anything like the material they charge for. The practice questions are full of grammatical and spelling mistakes and are not worded at all like the real exam questions.

EDIT: Also I highly recommend having a study buddy to ask you practice questions and encourage you to study. The cuter the study buddy, the better.

Those are the only study tools I used so I cannot comment on the other social work study sites out there.

And when I got home from my exam, I found out Obama officially announced that he is running! Yay!

This week hasn’t been much better. I’m starting to understand the new computer program and maybe even my job. The new computer program does not seem to like it’s users and crashes every chance it gets. As a result I’ve been snapping on coworkers more often. Don’t involve me in your cc: circle jerk. And I know with the new program it’s a pain to look at previous counselor’s notes but do it anyway so I don’t have to fix your mistakes when you tell the client something wrong. And, supervisors, if you’re going to send out a million emails a day with updates instead of one a night like you said you would, don’t expect me to remember every damn email.

I registered for my LSW exam finally. I have a test date in February. Work sucking was enough motivation to get me to register. Now I need motivation to study.

Instead of studying, I’ve been going on shopping trips. I bought the new Jay-Z for a child on my workplace’s giving tree. Everyone vetoed Three 6 Mafia for a 14 year old girl. No ho slappin allowed. I got a ton of shirts on Threadless.com. All the kids in my family will be getting clever shirts for Xmas this year. And my roommate suggested making hot buttered rum so we went to the store to get many types of sugar, ice cream, butter and dark (not spiced) rum.

You mix all of the sugary goodness together into a batter and then add it to hot water and rum

LSW and out and about06 Nov 2006 11:42 pm

I started studying my LSW book. I went to a coffeeshop and made myself write outline even though the book is already in outline form. I figure thats the only way I can make myself absorb all the knowledge I’ve already been over a million times. I should schedule the test for sometime before Xmas. Work gets busy around the holidays and I won’t be as motivated to study. Or maybe work will be hell and I will be more motivated to study because my job will suck so much.

I’ve started going out with coworkers and it’s fun even though some of them are the complete opposite of me. Coach bag sorority sisters? Whatever, they’re fun to drink with.

I stopped by Neo last night after an unsuccessful try at a way too hipster bar. I wanted to visit Skinny Rabbit, my favorite bartender. It’s been a while since I’ve been a regular but there are still the same people on the dancefloor. Whats up theatre troupe synchronized steps kids? Whats up guy I went on a date with once and I see you fucking everywhere? Whats up DJ who runs away when I request songs? Play me some Praga Khan!

According to my site’s stats, a lot of people come across my blog looking for LSW test info. So I figured I should post an update as to how I am planning to prepare. (I plan to plan!)
During my supervision group we reviewed test questions from one of the sites I planned on using for test prep. Group members that have taken the LSW exam and supervisor all said the questions were poorly worded and not a good example of what is on the test. One of the questions was on psychological testing. How many psych testing questions will there be on a social work exam?

The problem seems to be that none of the test prep sites are approved by the organization that creates the exam. Another problem seems to be that the ASWB and NASW do not offer enough test prep resources. But that is an entirely different issue.
So my new game plan is to wait until October to take the NASW review course. Then register for an exam date about a month in advance. Then I will take the ASWB online practice exam. If I suck at that, I will look into one of the non-approved practice courses since by that time they will be my only option.
I guess I feel comfortable waiting another month because I feel comfortable at my job. I have unexpectedly received some nice praise from 2 supervisors. My coworkers are nice and the job is tolerable.
