site update

I had a weird spam account register as a user today so I checked out the email address and another blog noted that this user was a problem because there used to be a WordPress bug that allowed Subscriber level users to delete a blog.

At least that’s what I think is the problem. The blog I found the info on is Dutch and there are not a lot of great free Dutch translation sites.

So, until I find more on this or a plugin to hold new user registration until I approve it, I’m taking down the registration option. Existing users can still log in and if new users want to subscribe, they can just email me.

Real update tomorrow after my research interview!

I found a plugin that does pretty much what I want as far as restricted access posts. So if you register and log in, you can view all posts.

When you register use your real email address or let me know which fake address you are using so I can try to keep track of everyone. And sometimes restricted posts may be NSFW. I’m not anticipating it but you’ve been warned. No, it won’t be my ass, sluts.

And don’t post full names (including my own) or company names on the blog. I’m discreet like a high class whore, yo.

I’m getting around to fixing a few things on the site. I discovered the “read more” button and made the Krispy Kreme page into a post rather than it’s own page. I lost the comments on the page due to the move but the general gist of the comments were that you were lame if you could not handle the raisins.

I also updated my About Me page and I know some pics are different sizes but that is the way it will have to be. Some pics were small to start with, some have to be large so you can read text.

I’m still trying to change the title color so it’s readable but I’m having no luck so far. I’m not terribly concerned about this since the title and URL are the same. Maybe I will care when I think of something witty.

All this arguing with HTML has been a good disctraction for me tonight. I’m having some blood tests done in the morning and I have to fast for 12 hours beforehand. It makes me happy I broke down and got a room AC. Not drinking any water tonight would be murder if it were hot in here. Currently, it is just mildly annoying.

I had my personal training session at the gym and it was pretty useful. The trainer made me go in the meathead section and I felt terribly lame because I was just lifting the bar, no weights. My chest muscles on my left side are terribly weak due to my robot heart. When I lift weights using a bar, my right side just compensates for it. So I have to use a machine or dumb bells so I can independently lift each side. I am still kind of scared of the extra meaty section. It even looks menacing with it’s black floor and black machines. I’ll stick to the weird grandmas in the pool for now.

I’m happy to see people registering! Yay! I asked if people can see my protected post and I guess no one can. Ya, it helps if I actually read the directions. I guess WordPress has “private” posts that only I can read and password protected that have one general password to access. I don’t like that option, especially because password protected entries show up as an entry announcing that you can only read the entry is you have the password. It’s kind of like shouting”I have a secret!”

So I’m looking into the possiblity of posts that can only be read by registered and logged in users (my original misunderstood intention).

In my searching, I realized WordPress probably doesn’t have this option because their target audience is different from LiveJournal’s. WordPress’ target is people that want popular, well known blogs. LJ’s audience is people that want more privacy and control over their posts. I would guess that’s because LJ’s audience is younger, even though LJ denies that.

Oh look, entries magically appeared!

I took entries from another blog that I was planning on keeping as my profession related blog and transferred them here. That is why so many entries have to do with social work.
